Next one into the garage - a white Morris 1800 from Sheffield, former property of one Dave1800 of this parish. I'll have to do this right! The owner wants new sills and centre membranes fitted both sides, before they become a real issue. I gather this is part of a larger scale project, which will involve doors being replaced and ultimately, a re-spray. Not too much to see yet, but fitting full sills involves re-using a lot of the other panel work, so it's been a long afternoon drilling out spot welds. My next most favourite thing after upside down plug welding...... I was taught to space spot welds out at 30mm or 1ΒΌ" along flanges. Whoever did this was having far too much fun. Both wing ends are frilly and will have to have to be sorted in order to tie back into the new sills properly. Chris.

Hello Wayne! It's got a lovely bottom. Little wing bits will sort out easily enough. I really, really hate underseal. Completely black when I came back in. Chris.

There was black hammerite paint under the black waxoyl allegedly non hardening underseal, so guess what colour I was after applying it! David Hello Wayne! It's got a lovely bottom. Little wing bits will sort out easily enough. I really, really hate underseal. Completely black when I came back in. Chris.

That was d@mn hard work. Clearing out the remains under the front, middle and back. Slow and awkward. Bottom drop down flange is mainly rotten and there are a few little holes at the bottom of the inner sill. "A" post has multiple layers of repair at the bottom, so that's all going to get chopped out and replaced. Chris.

It's all off, including the bits under the posts. No very much swearing involved..... Be interesting how the bottom of the inner sill looks after a tickle with the wire wheel. There are a few pin holes already visible. Chris.

Front of inner sill. That'll need cutting out and replacing. Goes up about an inch before there's good metal. That's got to go..... To be fair, Wayne did tell me that it was there, but with full access I think it can be made into a rather neater repair. Chris.

Hi Wayne. In a way, it's perfect timing. All the original panels were in place and recognisable, despite the sill being plated, so it's been an educational experience so far. I didn't know, for instance, that the inner panel of the "A" pillar runs on straight down and backs up the inside of the centre membrane. It has to be cut off with the membrane to get it all out and none of the cars I've done sill work on to date have had this in place - certainly they are not present on either of my cars because I didn't know it should be there! Scary thought - I imagine that this is missing from many of the remaining cars which have had sill work in the past. I will make sure it's made up when we get to re-assembly. With the remains of the original sills still in place, the hardest bot so far has been clearing under the bottom of the "A", "B" and "C" posts to let the new sill fit in its entirety. I suspect that many cars have had replacement sills trimmed and fitted around the metal which was awkward to remove. It's getting me fit, anyway. Chris.

Busy day with my "other " work, so not a massive amount achieved today. Front of inner sill and minor floor repairs. Most of the bottom flange has cleaned up nicely, so hopefully only minor repairs needed along there. Chris.
