Easiest way to upload pictures is through a hosting site. The site has very limited storage capacity for attached images before we have to start paying for the privilege. Photobucket and Flickr are both currently popular choices and even I can manage to use Photobucket! Chris.

Welcome to the forum, Andrew! The car looks very good in deed, but some horrors behind the shiny paint I see.
Good luck! You'll get there, and then you'll have a stunning car! The interior really looks immaculate!
Regards, Tommy

Cheers - am going with metal valance now, plastic one was £70 and metal one £100 - new old stock. Turns out wing was only held on by bolts at the back, one plug weld and loads of seam sealer - all it needed was a Stanley blade to remove! Jury is still out on bolt on wing - what I plan will be much more robust than what was on there, but whether as strong as original I know not. Thought I'd better answer that one here - it's going to get disjointed if we try to have the conversation in two threads! The wing is supposed to be spot welded in place along the top flange and around the side light seams, as well as a supporting bracket at the front inside. Someone's been a bit naughty........... The bolts at the back are supposed to help with door alignment. Just out of interest, who had a metal front valance? It would be interesting to see the state of the cross member behind the valance when you get it off. I know that there is at least the start of an issue with my own one. This winters project, perhaps. Chris.

Welcome to the forum Andrew. Bit belated but I've been away for a week. I took the pictures at Milton Keynes that are elsewhere on this forum and thought your car looked great. Just goes to show what you find when you start to dig deeper. Mine has a thick coating of underseal for which I believe the purpose is twofold. Firstly is protects the vehicle from the ravages of winter weather and road filth and secondly it protects the owner from finding out just what has happened under their cars in the past.
Looking forward to reading the story of your car as it develops.
Nick

Lot more pictures on the photobucket thing pls use the link above - except I can't seem to make them appear here and you have to go backwards through the slideshow (?!) - no wonder I'm having problems with the car! You can see evidence of mice but they'd moved out before I got the car. Drivers side going back together this week - just waiting for front valance. Only other slight mods will be enlarging the bumps under the back seat pending bigger displacers/slightly wider arms and creating a bit more space in the wheel arches, then we start on other side....

Ok........... Phwoar - that's horrible! Leaky neck and seam? Evidence of visitors, I suspect. Ouch! Weapons of mass destruction appear to have been utilised..... Looks like the incorrect use of filler to me. Bottom of A post? I think you've got a lot of work of do over the winter, Andrew. May I pinch some of these for the "Rust" sub forum? Entire album is viewable HERE. Chris.

Having been massively depressed - this was bought from a dealer - more of that later...it's starting to come back together quite nicely! Fuel tank returns tomorrow - hopefully as good as new and new drivers side metal work shouldn't take too long. Cheers Andrew

Good to hear you're over the "why did I ever buy that" phase and it is starting to come together. Looking at the original photos of the car which looks superficially quite good bodily, how much did you manage to spot when you purchased it? Were there many warning signs of the extent of what was underneath. I know it can be very difficult to assess before pulling it apart. It looks as though some newer owners such as yourself may buy the cars because they or their family had one 30 years or so ago, when the tin worm wasn't so much of an issue, so your posts are a healthy warning of what to expect now perhaps? Good question - have tended to always buy with heart rather than head and this car has a lot going for it - great interior (recent) the "S" bits and bobs and so on. I expected to have to so some work at some point, but not to this degree and I'm extremely doubtful it should have had an MOT. The old man had one of these and rust was an issue after 7 years so I should have known. On the plus side, parts are cheap (relatively) so if I was handy at welding it would be an inconvenient challenge rather than a bank balance altering nightmare. Mucking about with old cars is rarely an inexpensive pastime IMHO but that's one of the reasons why I go to work! Engine's coming out tomorrow by the way as a teeny weeny bit more rot discovered!!!! Cheers Andrew

Well the engine's not out yet and welding work is not going as quick as I'd hoped! Although one side is almost done. To be fair I've added a few bits and bobs as I went along. I've had grand plans to rebuild the engine and gearbox but I must say apart from heavy mystery oil consumption there was nothing wrong with the way either the engine or gearbox operated. As I'm keen not to spend the national debt just yet I'm coming round to just putting it back in once the welding's done and enjoy using the car. Have toyed with the idea of Peter Burgess head and different cam whilst the engine's out but am concerned that up ing the power quite dramatically without checking out the bottom end may be asking for trouble. Gut feeling is to get back behind the wheel and if in 10 months I really feel I need more power, then do the job properly then. Any views opinions gratefully received. Cheers
