Last Sunday Mo was taken out for the first time since mid December. Main reason she hasn't been out was drivers side screenwash jet blocked. My cleaner took the jet out for me but I kept forgetting about it each time she came. Eventually, after 2 months, it was replaced. Sad state of affairs when I can't even screw in a jet. However, off we went and on a very busy 4 lane carriageway the clutch failed and I couldn't select gears. Now I am in a wheelchair and Rach has a long term dislocated kneecap but we both got out, leaned on the car and attempted to push it out of live traffic. No one stopped to help. After about 10 minutes we had pushed it about 10 yards when a woman in a car asked if we needed help and promptly sent 2 strapping youths to assist and within seconds the car was out of live traffic and into the white hatched area of a fork in the road.
Quick check and master cylinder empty. Where's tat gone? Anyway, into boot and out with the Dot4, opened and .... the bottle was empty. At a show someone had asked if they could have some fluid, brought me the bottle back but didn't say it was empty! Phoned orange tool box and chap on other end of phone said he knew exactly where we were (Central Newcastle) and also suggested I call Police so they could ensure we were safe. Traffic car arrives and takes 2 now semi frozen individuals into his car to thaw. RAC patrol phoned saying they couldn't find me. He had been sent to a location 15 miles away near Durham (so much for RAC control saying he knew where we were! Traffic officer checked car for insurance etc, and got my licence to check as well. Suppose he has to do his job. He then became more friendly as we awaited rescue and suggested I should buy a new car. I told him to wait and see what happens as I knew the problem. RAC guy eventually arrived, I told him what was needed, fluid added, no airlock, clutch restored and off we went in about 2 minutes (can't do that with modern rubbish)
Pulled into a nearby supermarket car park, and getting his priorities right asked if he could photograph Mo as he never usually gets such a call out, compared to modern cars, pointing to adjacent vehicles, which he attends at a rate of 1 an hour.
I purchased the remainder of the bottle of fluid from him now have a cylinder repair kit which I look at longingly wanting to fit it, but she has an appointment at a local garage on Wednesday instead
