The reality is probably that if you've got a car full they'll all be listening to their own stuff, on their phones, with their ear buds in so all you need are a couple of USB charging points (and possibly one of those little portable Bluetooth speakers)! Good luck with rest of build up. Cheers Andrew

Tick tock....was it beginning or end of September? Either way I hope you're moving forward at a pace. Finally got Bristol back and all seems fine - put 2000 miles on her in a fortnight having a look at Essex coast and Pembrokeshire coast....reluctant to tinker any more as she's got wedding duties in October....(daughter)! Good luck Andrew

Finally got Bristol back and all seems fine - put 2000 miles on her in a fortnight having a look at Essex coast and Pembrokeshire coast....reluctant to tinker any more as she's got wedding duties in October....(daughter)! Good luck Andrew Yes I am screwed! Glad to hear the Bristol is out and about. 2000 miles, thats a bit of driving. A good test of reliability for sure. A wedding on the cards and dad came good with the car, thats nice! My daughter's school prom is in two weeks. No such promise for OKR. My wife organised a friends flashy Merc for her to go in luckily. I suspect my ratty old Landcrab would not have been cool enough anyway. It won't be finished so good job. Not that it was ever on the cards! I could lie and say the end of September was the finish date, but it was the 11th I was aiming for. That is OKR's 50th. Even the end of September is looking doubtful at present. It won't be much after that though I hope. I have been pushing hard, and I am about to paint the front, hopefully this week. I have sadly been bogged down by a few things that have soaked up lots of time and patience to get right. Not being able to stop the clutch slave cylinder leaking was the most recent! This eventually resulted in me stripping the thread on the new slave! The slave is normally an 3/4" girling. I had a new 1" girling slave fitted (not sure where from), a new pipe and new master cylinder. Trouble is, I was slightly slack and attempted to connect the pipe to the slave with it in place. Big mistake! It turned out to be very awkward and resulted in me cross threading it. It seemed a little off when tightening, but was so awkward to get the spanner in I put it down to that. The 1" slave gave the clutch a considerably lighter feel and it operated well, but was leaking from the connection slightly. Anyway to cut a long story short I couldn't find another 1" slave and the new pipe was also ruined. I now have a connection using a rubber brake pipe, plus a section of metal tube with a bracket and a 3/4" slave instead. I actually prefer the new pipework setup, but not the heavier pedal feel. I will eventually change it for a 7/8" slave which seem to be available. Anyway, a 1 hour job turned into a day job! The list of things to do is still as long as your arm, but I am considerably closer than I was. I will post some pictures, but for the moment front paint is a priority. Nick

That's impressive Andrew clocking up so many miles in such a short timevand suggests it is now in good shape. It will make a classy wedding car and as you say best not to tinker further at this stage. David Tick tock....was it beginning or end of September? Either way I hope you're moving forward at a pace. Sorry you'll miss OKR's 50th targert date, but it sounds as though it won't be too long now before you can enjoy the fruits of all your hard work behind the wheel. Shame about the clutch cylinder, maybe the heavier feel is actually preferable for better control?

Proms - humbug - another American import! I could never understand why the 3 litre, Mini Van or Alfa Giulia weren't acceptable transport and we ended ended up renting a Mustang one year and a Camaro the next - both standard and both very disappointing to drive btw! Coolest arrivals were three young lads on Puch Maxi's btw! I always found putting a car back together a tricky balance between pushing on towards a deadline (and having a list of things to come back to!!) or taking all the time you need and it dragging on forever. Was thinking Christmas Day run to the beach with family might be good target! That'd give you some time to get it re registered or tested (I'm assuming Aussies have tougher rules and regs than we do in UK) put a few miles on it and get any bugs (not critters) out of it. Or perhaps that's not ambitious enough? Cheers Andrew

It did have a 3/4" slave on it. Nick

Yes I 100% agree Andrew, just another Americanism! My older two were not interested in grade 12 formals and did not attend them, so we have dodged the expense up until now. Thats hilarious, Puch maxi's! I agree, most definitely cool!
I would think not many young people would have ever seen a crab, so OKR ticks the rarity box at least. A very rare machine in this neck of the woods anyway. I have only ever seen one other, and that one is gone now. There is a Messerschmitt KR200 in town, which would be another candidate as coolest vehicle to show up in, for me anyway. I think it is currently off the road though. Yes I think there is no point rushing it now. I currently only work part time, so I am taking advantage of the extra time I have. By rights I should be finishing painting the house. Oh well! I will be moving to full time in a couple of months, so may as well try to get the car on the road before then.
A Christmas run is not a bad idea.
Nick

The front is back to red at last! Some top coat on yipee. Happy Birthday OKR! Still wants a wet sand and buff though. I am quite happy with how it came out though. Just one very minor ding in the front. This was caused by me hitting the wet paint with the air hose, otherwise no major disasters. I usually manage to put at least one run in my paint, but this time all good! Its not perfect, but I am not really going for perfect. The back needs doing now. Happy to reach the milestone. Nick
