Looking good, Al. Body work is really a rub down and paint job, I take it? Are those PBR calipers? They look a bit different to out M16s. Cleaned up a treat, anyway.
Chris.

Been away for a while The car is progressing slowly. When i open the engine in two pistons ring were broken and i had to machined it along with the head (took the opportunity to convert to unleaded. Also found that the left fender was replaced and been done awfuly with 2 tonnes of filler around the head lights and bonnet seal,it looks like i will have to take it to a pannel beater as i dont have the knoladge to do it...(photos will follow shortly). Hope you all doing ok Cheers Al

Which rings were broken? Top - same piston etc. Any idea of the mileage they had covered and thoughts of the cause ie to much ignition advance, overheating etc. Do you still have the old pistons, plugs etc as they might give you a clue and point you towards the possible need to overhaul the distributor, carb, radiator. If you still have the broken rings are the breaks carbonised or clean? If the latter they may have fractured when the pistons were removed past the carbon ring. regards David View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentBeen away for a while The car is progressing slowly. In my opinion the head gasket was gone due to the fact of the amount of smoke coming from the exhaust. Its just look that the car wasnt maintain properly. I will overhaul all the companants,by the look of them its a must. As to what you suggest that the rings got broken during taking the pistons out its a good possiblety as the carbon ring was very rough and the bore was damaged I still have the pistons but didnt examin the yet(will take photos and post) Regards Al

Hi, Al As I have read some threads on board, I realized the two halves can be removed apart on this kind of style. For Benz, I was told not to do so unless I have a very special sealer such as the pink liquid one for Volvo modern vehicles. The RTV sealer won't do the job. Regards Tony where are the breaks?
