Let there be light! It looks good Chris. I always had problems on my K reg 18/85 with rust in the seams where the wings and front valance join, but yours seems to be good. Have you a secret formula?
Regards
David

I can't say that I've had a problem in that area. Plenty of rust killer was worked into all the seams before we got it into paint, I assume that that has done the trick.
The really nasty one was the front valance/front panel/shelf joint right across the front of the car. That is now continuously welded to seal the gaps and neatly radiused with seam sealer. Water will never enter there again!

Sorry to be a hassle, so how did you mount those speaker boxes up again? That's one of things I wanan try and get started on after my exams in November. Andrew

Er, forgot about this. Being plywood instead of hardboard, there is very little flex, so the panel became a very tight fit. It is held by the two screws at the top which retain the lower support rail - I had to use slightly longer screws due to the extra thickness of the panels. I have 5 spare brake discs, and the week before last I dropped them over at Drakes in Bradford to see if they could be re-faced. Brake discs are becoming a problem for the cars with the M16 caliper as they just aren't available, so getting the best out of the ones left is about all we can do. Hopefully, LOCI will address this in the future..... So, starting depth on a new disc is .500" and you can take off up to .040", providing it's evenly from both sides. Drakes rejected one disc out of hand, the remaining four were deemed suitable for treatment. Took a few days, but the results are rather impressive. Two absolutely mint discs and two pretty good, but with some slight pitting on the surface. I've ordered up some Greenstuff pads (haven't come yet - grrr - mail order) and this afternoon I fitted the best pair of discs to the car. Mmm, nice and shiny. A most disconcerting experience as it went exactly to plan, nothing broke, everything fitted and I didn't even mash any fingers. These are what were taken off the car: First two are from the off-side of the car and are absolutely horrible. Second two are obviously from the other side and, despite the pics not looking too bad, are pretty horrible. They are also very badly grooved. I suspect that taking them over to Drakes won't save these ones. LINK TO W. DRAKE AND CO.. They are a family firm in Bradford and do a lot of engine re-building, especially classics. Incidentally, they have quoted £80 plus VAT to convert a "B" head to unleaded, provided I supply them with a bare head and an exhaust valve to reference to. I have inserted some off-cuts of wood into the calipers, just in case someone steps on the brake pedal. Guess who did that many years ago? Cheers, Chris.

hahaha, nice one with the wooden blocks!
As for the unleaded conversion, geez that's cheap! might even be worth the effort shipping over here.

I like the idea of them being bright green, would make it a lot easier to check them.

Explains the fire extinguisher lol That's on my list of things for the car, not a silly idea really. Also an immobiliser. Andrew

I managed to pop out for a spin this afternoon and can report that the brakes are an absolute revelation. Very crisp and effective.
Fire extinguisher is common sense.

Things are afoot again....... Brakes are wonky again, I suspect that the s/h servo has let go as the symptoms are just about identical. I have managed to acquire a new Lockheed servo for the princely sum of £37, so that'll be going on when it turns up. Bit of bracketry and pipework to do. In the meantime, I have bought this: Two lots of Machinemart vouchers made this an affordable option. I have now started to strip the engine bay: I don't like the look of what's down there one little bit. I suspect that the mig will be out fairly soon......... I will see if I can bully the boys into giving me a hand tomorrow and might have the engine out by the evening. Chris.
