I'm hoping you have decided against selling Andrew! It's good to see the car out and about again.

As per above - have put non rally front seats back in car for a while. Had bases re-stuffed as they were a bit saggy as well. The feeling is quite odd - having got used to the others...you def feel you're sitting on the car rather than in it and it's more comfortable when driving along in a straight line but I guess I'd forgotten what cornering forces the car can generate quite easily as you really have to hang on tight to the steering wheel to stop yourself slipping around which is causing much hilarity!

HI Andrew I assume you left the original mounting points in for your seat install. How much effort was it to keep them the same?
Reason I ask is the ADR's (Australian Design Rules) for cars here in Oz post 72 required head rests on the front seats. My UK car which is currently on the Indian Ocean on the way to Oz, will need them fitted to get its rego being a 73 build.
There is no such original seat with head rests on the UK or Oz cars that I know of. The UK rule came later after the UK crab stopped production and the Oz crab turned into the Kimberly / Tasman around that time. I think Kimberly / Tasmans got head rests and I assume they would be a direct fit. Not easy to find a set though!
So I might be better to fit some buckets. What do you think Andrew with regards how much effort it is to do. I believe here I will need an engineer to sign it off.

Good question! It took a lot of thought but after that it was easy! I discounted rivnuts and other solutions and used the original mounting points and basically constructed a frame. I've literally just wrapped up the seats and stowed them away but seeing as it's you I'll dig them out and photograph them! Hopefully you can show them to an engineer and see if they'll pass muster down under. Cheers A

Thanks very much for that Andrew that will be very helpfull. I also need to fit rear seat belts and am not sure if they will like the lack of bumpers!
Hi David it is expected to arrive in port of Brisbane 6th March. Take a week or so to clear customs I believe then off to Brisvegas to pick it up with a trailer! Hopefully the Ford wont get too upset dragging it back! I'm trying not to get excited in case I jinx the customs bit or the container it's in falls in the ocean or something!

Not forgotten promise re seat mounting - put my back out and unable to move for 2 weeks and then the most god awful flu and confined to room for a fortnight +. Might have been the dreaded covid but doctor didn't test as I was on the mend by the time I got an appointment! Still not 100% - lingering fatigue and lethargy - though that could be just be the result of 3 months constant rain and storms! Wishing you good luck and much patience with Customs.
Cheers

Hi Andrew Hope your back is better, been there not fun. Shame you weren't tested it would be good if you knew whether you still need to take precautions. All good Andrew no hurry. Sorry to hear you have been unwell and a bad back as well that really sucks!
My car has been released from customs now and I am going to Brisbane tomorrow with a trailer to pick it up. Hopefully the Ford will cope with the 4 hour drive back towing it!
Fingers crossed for a quick recovery for you and smooth 8hr round trip for me tomorrow!

Presume all went well and you retrieved car before restrictions came in? Where I live, most people seem to be taking this seriously those that aren't seem to be a very small minority of either elderly or the other end of the scale small groups of feral 14 year olds. Am taking the time to clean the garage and detail the cars - the novelty of which is starting to wear off! Cheers for now Andrew

Cleaning out the shed your brave! So far in Queensland we don't have a total lock down. It may well come, as I am quite surprised at how many cars are still driving around! Working last week, I swear there were more cars than normal on the road! Surely not all shopping or working! People are ignoring the restrictions and going to the beach and having party's! This shocks me given the scenes we are seeing of the US and UK etc! Idiots! I would rather stay at home as it's a pain washing my hands and tools after every job encounter I have and trying to avoid getting near people who just don't get it! Nick

Day of mixed emotions yesterday and . Said goodbye to Austin as I part exchanged it against this..... Bristol1 by andrew atherton, on Flickr Bristol2 by andrew atherton, on Flickr It's a Bristol 410 - have always wanted one and this a nice honest car with some room for improvement but a great driver already. Unlike when I purchased the Austin, this time I had a very thorough independent critique done of the car so am going in with eyes open! Have no idea what's to become of my car but hopefully it will continue to enjoy many great adventures! Cheers for now Andrew

Shame to see it go, Andrew. I've enjoyed following your adventures over the years. Good luck with the Bristol - be nice to see how this develops. Tell the new owner to get on here, BTW! Chris.

The Bristol is a beautiful car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It would be nice if we could hear how you're getting on and some word of wisdom about crabs from time to time. I've sent you a pm.
